Mexican Libertad Gold Coins are some of the most popular gold coins in the North American market. However, Mexican Libertads are minted in lower quantities than both the American Eagle and Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins. Due to the low mintage numbers and beautiful designs, both investors and collects are interested in Mexican Libertad Gold Coins. Right now, you can purchase the 2016 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/10 oz Gold Coins from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Coins ship in protective plastic capsules.
  • 12th release in the Proof Mexican Libertad Gold Coin Series!
  • Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .999 pure gold in proof finish.
  • Obverse design features Winged Victory.
  • Mexican coat of arms featured on the reverse face of the coins.

The Mexican Libertad Series showcases coins in both gold and silver. The Libertad Coins were officially on the market starting in 1982. The original coins featured the same design as the Centenario Coins, but a more modern design is now featured on Libertad Coins.

Proof Mexican Libertad Gold Coins are struck in very low numbers. For the 1/10 oz size, the most coins that have ever been minted in a single year is 1,100 coins, which occurred in 2011. In 2015, only 500 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/10 oz Coins were created.

Obverse

The obverse of each Libertad showcases the complex design of the statue of Winged Victory. The image is a replica of the statue in the center of Mexico City. The background field includes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, twin volcanic peaks found in Mexico.

Reverse

On the reverse side of all Libertads features the coat of arms for Mexico. On the coat of arms, you will notice the image of a bald eagle battling a serpent. The phrase Estados Unidos Mexicanos, which means the United States of Mexico, is engraved into this side of the coin.

History

Mexican Libertad Coins were inspired by the Gold Centenario Coins struck by the Mexican Mint from 1921 to 1947. The Centenario Coins contained images that represented the 100th anniversary of Mexicos Independence from Spain.
