{{/presale}}Star Treks 13 films and five television series made the franchise a household name for half a century. To celebrate the 50-year mark of Star Treks first hurrah, the Royal Canadian Mint is releasing a three-coin series. Right now, you can purchase the 2016 Proof Canadian Star Trek Mirror Mirror 1 oz Silver Coin from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each of the coins in the Star Trek Scenes three-coin series features a different design from one of the most iconic episodes of Star Treks Original Series. This Mirror Mirror coin is the second of the three-coin releases.
Star Trek debuted on television on October 6, 1967, with the Star Trek Enterprises crew landing in a parallel universe instead of back aboard the Enterprise, which is when Captain Kirk comes into contact with evil Spock.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth IIs image is featured on the obverse of each of these coins. This image was created in 2003 by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt.
Reverse
The reverse face of the coin bears the image of a famous scene from Star Trek. In the image, Captain Kirk is standing face to face with the evil Spock. Both of the characters are shown in real-life color. The scenes are copyrighted by CBS, but the television program provided the image rights to the Royal Canadian Mint for the Star Trek collection.
History
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 as a production facility in Ottawa for the British Royal Mint. However, the mint eventually began producing coinage under the government of Canada. To meet production demands, a second facility was opened in Winnipeg in the 1980s.
