{{/presale}}The 2016 Proof Australian Kookaburra 1 oz Silver Coin is a high-relief version of the iconic Kookaburra coin that the Perth Mint has released annually since 1990, in both a proof and a bullion option. The kookaburra is one of the fixtures of the Australian Outback. Each year, with the release of the kookaburra coin, a new design featuring this iconic kingfisher bird is released. The obverse of the coin will not change with each new release, just the reverse design will feature a new artistic depiction of this large beautiful bird. This high relief coin contains .999 pure silver.
Highlights:
The release of the Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins introduced an era of charming coin designs from the Perth Mint. Each of these designs features a species that is native to Australia. The popularity of the Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins saw the release of additional series of coins, including the popular Australian Silver Koala series and the Australian Silver Kangaroo series.
Obverse Design
The obverse of the 2016 Proof Australian Kookaburra 1 oz Silver Coin features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II made famous by world-renowned sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. A portrait of Her Majesty has graced the obverse of each of the coins released in Australia since she ascended to the throne. The obverse design also includes engravings of Her Majestys name, Australia and 1 Dollar.
Reverse Design
The reverse of the 2016 Proof Australian Kookaburra 1 oz Silver Coin depicts a lone kookaburra perched on top of a fence post. The engravings on the coin feature the coin series, the year of issue, along with the weight, purity and metal content of the coin.
The kookaburra bird, one of the most easily recognized birds on the Australian continent, is featured every year with a fresh design that collectors eagerly anticipate. The Perth Mint produces these annual coins and holds the distinction of being the oldest operating mint in Australia. The Perth Mint is also globally recognized for the beautiful designs that it released each and every year.
