{{/presale}}Few presidents in American history did as much for the preservation of natural spaces in the country than President Theodore Roosevelt. His administration spurred an expansion of national parks and protected forests, including on land in one of his favorite places: North Dakota. The national park in that state which bears his name features for North Dakota in the ATB Series. Today, you have the opportunity to get the 2016-P Burnished ATB Theodore Roosevelt National Park 5 oz Silver Coin online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is the only national park in the country directly named for just one person. The park covers 70,446 acres of land spread out across three different geographical regions of the badlands in western North Dakota. One of those units, Elkhorn Ranch, was once directly owned by the president as a private ranch where he could pursue what he believed was the perfect freedom of the American West.
Obverse
On the obverse of all 2016-P Burnished ATB 5 oz Silver Coins, you will find the left-profile bust of President George Washington. The first President of the United States of America is featured here in an iconic bust that was designed in 1932 by John Flanagan using a sculpting of Washington from 1786 as inspiration for the design. It has been featured on the circulation version of the US quarter since 1932 and features on the obverse of all ATB coins.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2016-P Burnished ATB Theodore Roosevelt National Park 5 oz Silver Coin includes a depiction of President Theodore Roosevelt surveying the lands of the western badlands near the Little Missouri River. President Roosevelt is shown on horseback at higher elevation looking out over the Little Missouri River.
History
President Roosevelt first visited the badlands of North Dakota in September 1883 on a bison hunt. During that visit, he bagged a bison and developed a deep love for the rugged lifestyle of the region and the beauty of the land. He spent $14,000 buying Maltese Cross Ranch and eventually invested in Elkhorn Ranch in the summer of 1884. The latter would eventually be used in the formation of the national park that now bears his name.
Ordering
Your 2016-P Burnished ATB Theodore Roosevelt National Park 5 oz Silver coin comes with an individual presentation package from the US Mint and a Certificate of Authenticity.
