These colorized silver coins are limited in overall mintage and come from the standard bullion issue of the 2016 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Silver coin. Each individual coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The colorized lacquer applied to the reverse is used on select design elements and does not alter the silver purity or quality of the coin.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2016 Colorized Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Silver Coins is a depiction of the Great Pipe Organ from the Musikverein. The Golden Concert Hall is located in the capital city of Vienna in the Innere Stadt neighborhood. The hall is home to many of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras performances, which include the use of the Great Pipe Organ in accompaniment with other instruments used by the members of the orchestra.

Reverse

The reverse face of 2016 Colorized Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Silver Coins bears the image of several different musical instruments. These instruments include the cello in the center flanked on either side by violins. The background includes a harp, bassoon, and French horn. This side of the coin has the colorization added to the coins. The thin layer of colorized lacquer brings to life the wood instruments and the brass of others.

History

Austrian Philharmonic coins debuted from the Austrian Mint in 1989 with the release of the first weights in the Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins. It wasnt until 2008 that these Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Silver Coins were introduced. More recently, the 2016 year saw the introduction of the first-ever Austrian Philharmonic Platinum Coin. All coins in the modern series have a face value in Euros, but that value is only considered legal tender in Austria, not other member nations of the European Union common currency zone.
