Highlights:
The 2016 Canadian True North 1/4 oz Silver Coin is a tribute to Canadas confederation, which meant Canadian independence from direct British rule. Canada still remains a commonwealth area that views Queen Elizabeth II as the sovereign head of state in a non-governmental capacity.
The design elements of the 2016 Canadian True North 1/4 oz Silver Coin pay tribute to many of the elements that are unique to Canada. These include an adult polar bear and the Arctic regions of Canada. The coin also features the maple leaf, which is a strong symbol of Canada due to the prevalence of the maple tree in Canada. It also serves as a reminder of the flora and fauna unique to Canada.
Obverse
The obverse design of the 2016 Canadian True North 1/4 oz Silver Coin features the right-profile effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This design was created in 2003 by Canadian Susanna Blunt. The obverse design of the coin also features Her Majestys name and the nation of issue.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2016 Canadian True North 1/4 oz Silver Coin features a number of images that are familiar to Canada. In the very center of the design is the image of an adult polar bear standing on the ice. Also included on the reverse are three vibrant red maple leaves, which are as Canadian as can be.
Canadas sovereign mint is the Royal Canadian Mint. It was established in 1908 after gold and other precious metals were discovered in the Yukon Territories. The original facility in Ottawa still operates, as does the newer location in Winnipeg.
