The Royal Canadian Mint is known for producing beautiful coins, and the maple leaf is one of the most iconic symbols of the nation of Canada. In fact, maple leaves are the primary design of the most prominent coins in the world, and these coins come from the Royal Canadian Mint. The 2016 Canadian $10 Maple Leaf 1/2 oz Silver Coin isnt the same as the original Maple Leaf Coins, but it features a stunning new maple leaf design. Today, you can purchase these coins from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Ships in a maroon clamshell box with black display case!
  • Mintage limited to just 30,000 coins!
  • Each coin contains 1/2 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • Given a face value of $10 (CAD) that is backed by the Canadian government.
  • Specimen finish.
  • Designed by Donna Kriekle.
  • Obverse features the image of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Reverse showcases a stunning maple leaf design.

The design on the reverse of these coins shows the various stages of life of the sugar maple leaf. In the lower left of the design, you will notice a winged maple leaf, which is the youngest stage in the maple leaf aging process. With each increase up the coin, youll see the maple leaf as it ages. The process ends with a broad, elder maple leaf on the top branch.

Obverse

The obverse side of these coins contains the image of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Susanna Blunt in 2003. In the image, the Queen is shown in right-profile relief. Also on this side of the coin, you will see engravings of the Queens name and the phrase D.G. Regina.

Reverse

On the reverse side of these coins, the Kriekles generational sugar maple leaf design is proudly displayed. Along with this beautiful maple leaf design, there are numerous engravings on this side of the coin, including the initials of the designer (DK), the face value of the coin, and the nation of issue.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint consists of two facilities, one in Ottawa and one in Winnipeg. The Ottawa location is the original minting facility, and the Winnipeg location opened in the 1980s to increase the mints output capacity.
