{{/presale}}America the Beautiful silver coins from the United States Mint are massive 5 oz silver versions of the US circulation quarter. Inspired by the State Quarters program on the circulating denomination that launched in the late 1990s and ran through the early 2000s, the ATB Series has its own distinctive designs for each of the states and territories of the United States. Today, you have the chance to get 2016 ATB Shawnee National Forest 5 oz Silver Coins online in near-perfect condition from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The United States Mint does not issue a specific proof coin in the ATB Series. The collection features a bullion coin with standard visuals for investment-grade coins and a burnished coin that has matte elements. However, that doesnt mean it is impossible for some coins to be struck that end up having proof-like visuals. The NGCs assessment of these bullion versions of the 2016 ATB Shawnee National Forest 5 oz Silver Coins includes a notation that each is a PL, or proof-like, specimen. This means you could notice slightly frosted design elements on the coins.
Obverse
On the obverse side of all 2016 ATB Shawnee National Forest 5 oz Silver Coins is a depiction of President George Washington. This left-profile bust of Washington was designed in 1932 by John Flanagan for the United States Mint and has featured on the circulating denomination since that time.
Reverse
The reverse of 2016 ATB Shawnee National Forest 5 oz Silver Coins features a scene from inside of the national forest in southern Illinois. In particular, this design captures one of the most famous spots in the park as it provides a view from the forest glancing up at the rock formation known as Camel Rock.
History
Shawnee National Forest covers some 260,000 acres of land spread across a total of nine counties in southern Illinois. It was established during the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 and originally grew in size by absorbing exhausted farmland into its make up that was replanted.
