Highlights:
If you purchase the 2016 ATB Shawnee National Forest 5 oz Silver Coin in this product listing, Provident Metals will ship you a coin in near-perfect condition according to the NGC. Coins with the Mint State 69 certification exhibit full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin.
Included with these coins are two more designations from the NGC. Early Release indicates the coins were received by the NGC within the first 30 days of the 2016 release date for the Shawnee National Forest design. The DPL notation means these bullion coins have deep, proof-like visuals that include mirrored fields and frosted elements.
Obverse
President George Washington is featured on the obverse of all 2016 ATB Shawnee National Forest 5 oz Silver Coins. The first President of the United States, Washington’s bust has been on the circulating quarter since 1932 when it was placed there to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth.
Reverse
A scene from within the natural elements of Shawnee National Forest plays out on the reverse of these 2016 ATB Shawnee National Forest 5 oz Silver Coins. Here, a red-tailed hawk soars over the top of Camel Rock, a natural rocky outcrop in the Ozark and Shawnee Hills of southern Illinois.
History
Shawnee National Forest was officially registered and authorized by the federal government in 1939. Much of the land added to the parks protective zone in its first decade of existence was exhausted farmland that underwent extensive replanting projects with the Civilian Conservation Corps.
