Today, it remains the best-seller globally and features one of the most attractive American coin designs in the nations history. Right now, you can purchase 2016 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins in NGC Gem Rolls from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
American Eagle Silver Coins debuted from the United States Mint in 1986. The mint celebrated the 30th anniversary of the coins in 2016 with its first-ever use of edge-lettering on the proof and burnished versions of the American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. These bullion coins didnt have that edge-lettering, but it doesnt make the date mark itself any less valuable.
Obverse
Adolph A. Weinmans Walking Liberty design features on the obverse of 2016 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. This design was created by Weinman in 1916 as part of a US Mint and Treasury Department art contest to replace the designs of the Barber Coinage. Weinmans Walking Liberty was chosen for the half-dollar coin and would feature on the 50-cent piece from 1916 to 1947.
Reverse
John Mercanti modernized the heraldic eagle of the United States for use on the American Eagle Silver coins in 1986. The design features the national shield on the chest of the American bald eagle. It clutches the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other talon. Above its head is a triangular cluster of 13 stars representing the original American Colonies. Mercanti served as an engraver and artist with the Philadelphia Mint beginning in the 1970s and went on to serve as the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 2006 to 2010.
History
The 2016 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin was released at a time of waning demand for silver bullion. The 2013-2015 coins had each surpassed 40 million coins in sales, but the 2016 coin dropped to 37 million. This figure was likely buoyed by the 30th-anniversary celebration as the 2017 coins dropped significantly to 18 million coins.
