{{/presale}}The American Eagle Platinum Coins from the United States Mint debuted in 1997. The coin was the third version of the American Eagle bullion series to debut and was the first to feature new designs created exclusively for this particular collection. John Mercanti and Thomas D. Rogers created the original designs that have remained in use on the bullion version of the coins since 1997. Provident Metals currently offers 2016 American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins to you for purchase online in near-perfect condition.
Highlights:
When you purchase a 2016 American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coin through this listing, you will receive a coin with a near-perfect certification from the PCGS. Coins in Mint State 69 condition showcase full, original mint luster with no more than two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws are limited in nature to minuscule contact marks or hairlines that are located outside of the primary focal points of the coin.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 2016 American Eagle Platinum Coin features a depiction of the Statue of Liberty. Designed by John Mercanti, the image focuses on the face of Liberty with the towering spikes of her crown visible in the design element. Mercanti was a long-time Philadelphia Mint engraver and artist when he created this image in 1997 and he would later go on to serve as the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 2006 to 2010.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2016 American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins is an image of the American bald eagle. Created by Thomas D. Rogers, this design captures the bald eagle soaring in flight over the nation as the sun rises in the distant background.
History
American Eagle Platinum bullion coins debuted in 1997 with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins. These four specimens were issued annually through 2008. In 2009, the bullion version of the coin was suspended. In 2014, the 1 oz coin returned, but was again halted in 2015. The 2016 release marked the return of the 1 oz coin only to annual production.
