{{/presale}}First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy is arguably one of the most iconic First Spouses in any era of American history. Known for her charm and sophistication, she brought a keen interest in the arts and history to the White House, and charmed world leaders with her elegance and her grasp of multiple languages during their visits to Washington and her own diplomatic journeys abroad. She was also noted for her courage and poise in the extraordinary circumstances she faced during her time, famously refusing to be evacuated to a bunker during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The thirty-fifth figure celebrated by the U.S. Mint’s First Spouse Gold Coin program, her legacy is commemorated by the 2015-W Proof US Mint First Spouse Jacqueline Kennedy 1/2 oz Gold Coin.
Highlights:
The 2015-W Proof US Mint First Spouse Jacqueline Kennedy Gold Coin comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, nestled in velvet in an elegant wooden case, and features the mirrored background and frosted raised elements of a proof-quality finish. Provident Metals fully insured your shipment against any possibility of loss or damage, and with limited supplies coming from an exclusive original mintage, we recommend ordering early.
Obverse
Jacqueline Kennedy’s portrait appears on the coin’s obverse field. It’s accompanied by inscriptions of her name, the coin’s year of issue and number in the series, her years of service, and the messages “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “LIBERTY.”
Reverse
The reverse field features a magnolia flower of the type that the First Lady planted near her husband’s grave in Arlington National Cemetery, overlaid on a global map with petals touching the destinations of notable diplomatic excursions. This is accompanied by the lettering “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “$10,” and “1/2 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.”
History
The Presidential One Dollar Coin Act authorized a coin series in tribute to America’s Presidents, to be produced by the U.S. Mint between 2007 and 2016. Alongside it, the Act also authorized a parallel program — the First Spouse Gold Coin Program — devoted to Presidential spouses in the chronological order of their service. That series would range across American history down to the early Nineties, and its thirty-fifth entry was dedicated to Jacqueline Kennedy.
