{{/presale}}In 2014, the Perth Mint collaborated with former US Mint Chief Engraver, John Mercanti, to introduce the captivating Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Series. This coin series instantly captured the hearts of collectors and investors, paying homage to one of Australia’s most iconic birds of prey. The enthusiasm for this coin led to a remarkable second release in 2015. Now, you can acquire the 2015 Proof Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin at Provident Metals.

Obverse
On the obverse field of each 2015 Proof Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver Coin, you’ll discover the elegant effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This unique portrayal depicts the Queen in right-profile relief, adorned with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland diamond tiara, as envisioned by Ian Rank-Broadley. Surrounding this image are identifying marks. Inscriptions read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 1 DOLLAR, and IRB.
Reverse
John Mercanti’s extraordinary Wedge-Tailed Eagle design graces the reverse of each 2015 Proof Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Coin. This depiction captures the majestic bird mid-flight, poised to grasp a branch with its powerful talons. Also featured on this design field is the P mint mark of the Perth Mint. Inscriptions include P, 2015 1 OZ 999 SILVER, and AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE.
History
The reverse design of these coins was masterfully crafted by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint. Notably, Mercanti became the first US Mint engraver to contribute a design to a foreign mint, etching his name into numismatic history. Mercanti’s journey began at the US Mint in 1974, culminating in his role as Chief Engraver in 2006 before retiring just four years later. He created over 100 designs for the US Mint during his tenure.
