{{/presale}}Australia is a land of many natural wonders, and there are few things more stunning than its diverse array of natural species. Among the most popular and recognizable by the outside world is the kangaroo. A common feature of Royal Australian Mint coins, the Perth Mint is now offering a variety of kangaroo-themed coins as well. The 2015 5 oz Proof Australian Silver Kangaroo Coin is available today at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The kangaroo is often viewed by many as a singular species, when in reality there are more than 40 different subspecies of kangaroo. Among the larger members of the species are the Eastern Grey, Western Grey, Antilopine, and the Red Kangaroo.
On these 2015 5 oz Proof Australian Silver Kangaroo High Relief Coins is the image of a red kangaroo. This particular member of the species is the largest in the family, with males growing up to 67 in height and weighing as much as 200 lbs. The kangaroo is the largest member of the marsupial species, which includes the tree kangaroo, wallaroo, and wallaby.
Obverse
On the obverse is the right-profile portrait of Englands Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majestys image has featured on British and commonwealth currency since she ascended to the throne in 1952, with this Ian Rank-Broadley depiction originating in 1998 as a fourth-generation image of the Queen.
Reverse
The reverse face of these coins features the image of a kangaroo hopping across the open spaces of the Outback, as an oversized depiction of the moon looms large in the background. Engravings include Australian Kangaroo above the design and 2015 5 oz 999 Silver below.
Perth Mint is located in the state of Western Australia, and is owned by the local government. Although Perth Mint coins enjoy legal tender status under the Currency Act of 1965, it is not affiliated with the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra.
