Highlights:
The 2015 Mexican Libertad 5 oz Silver Coin had a final declared mintage of 9,500 coins. This was the third-lowest among the eight coin weights available that year as rising silver prices drove investors toward the smaller weights. The 1 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz versions of the Mexican Libertad Silver coin all posted significant increases in mintages in 2015 compared to 2014 levels.
Obverse
The obverse field of 2015 Mexican Libertad 5 oz Silver Coins includes a depiction of Winged Victory. Her figure is visible at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City as it is shown here. Based on images of the Greek and Roman goddesses Nike and Victoria, respectively, Winged Victory is a personification of victory and is deployed on the Victory Column in Mexico City as the Romans often would by placing her figure high above.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2015 Mexican Libertad 5 oz Silver Coin there are a total of 11 versions of the Mexican Coat of Arms on display. The central design element has the modern version of the seal with a Mexican golden eagle battling a serpent from its perch on a cactus. Around the outer edge of the field, you will notice 10 historical versions of that same seal used at different points in Mexican history since its 1821 independence.
History
