{{/presale}}The four designs in the Birds of Prey Series at the Royal Canadian Mint were so popular with investors between 2014 and 2015 that the mint issued a second series of coins starting in 2016. The Great Horned Owl was featured third in both series of coins and is now available to investors with a certification from the PCGS. Provident Metals currently has near-perfect 2015 Canadian Great Horned Owl 1 oz Silver coins available to purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase these 2015 Canadian Great Horned Owl 1 oz Silver Coins at Provident Metals, you receive a silver coin with a near-perfect certification from the PCGS. Coins with a Mint State 69 certification showcase full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Acceptable flaws at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin only.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 2015 Canadian Great Horned Owl 1 oz Silver coin features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. In this right-profile design, the Queen is shown without a crown for the first time in a portrait during her reign and the first time overall since the reign of her father, King George VI. This image was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt and is just the second from a Canadian artist in the history of the Royal Canadian Mint.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2015 Canadian Great Horned Owl 1 oz Silver coins is an image of the owl. This particular species of owl is so-named for the tall feather tufts on its head that appear to take the shape of horns. In this image from Emily Damstra, the Great Horned Owl is shown swooping down on its prey to snatch up a quick meal.
History
The Royal Canadian Mint had one hit series after another in the early 2010s. The Canadian Wildlife Series debuted in 2011 with six images of different land-based predators commonly found throughout the Canadian wilderness. After its run from 2011 to 2013 releasing two coins per year, the mint introduced the Birds of Prey Series with four designs issued two per date.
