{{/presale}}The Homestead Act of 1862 is perhaps the most influential federal act in the westward movement of Americans beyond the boundaries of the original thirteen colonies. Signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln, the Homestead Act encouraged Americans to move west by claiming public lands to cultivate and improve. Right now, you can get the 2015 ATB Homestead 5 oz Silver Coin online in near-perfect condition at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Your purchase of 2015 ATB Homestead 5 oz Silver Coins in this listing comes with a near-perfect certification. These coins have Mint State 69 grades that indicate each one exhibits full, original mint luster and presents with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws at this level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin.
Additionally, these bullion coins have been identified by the NGC as having deep, proof-like visuals. This means the coins have a stronger frost on the design elements than a traditional bullion coin and at least a slightly-mirrored finish to the background fields.
Obverse
The obverse side of 2015 ATB Homestead 5 oz Silver Coins features a vision of President George Washington. This design was created in 1932 by John Flanagan for the US quarter. Congress had authorized this design for use on the coins starting in 1932 to honor the 200th anniversary of Washingtons birth in 1732.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2015 ATB Homestead 5 oz Silver Coins are designs honoring food, shelter, and water, all the essentials for any individual or family moving west in the 19th century. A log cabin is flanked by two ears of corn and there is a water well in front of the cabin.
History
The Homestead Act of 1862 offered up to 160 acres of land to any American willing to live on that plot of land for five years while improving and cultivating that land. The land could be claimed for free as long as those conditions were met. The Homestead Act represented the largest transfer of public land to private hands in American history.
