Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is found on the obverse field of the 2014 Tokelau Yellowfin Tuna 1 oz Silver Coins. This bust of Her Majesty is featured in the upper-center field of the design element in right-profile relief. The image was designed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint of England and used broadly throughout the Commonwealth. Below the bust of Her Majesty is the Badge of Tokelau, a wooden tackle box historically used by local fishermen. It includes a ribbon below that reads Tokelau mo te Atua, which is Tokelauan for Tokelau for God.
Reverse
A Yellowfin tuna is depicted on the reverse side of all 2014 Tokelau Yellowfin Tuna Silver Coins. The yellowfin is a large game fish and species of tuna that is found in tropical and subtropical ocean waters around the globe. Yellowfin is one of the largest tuna species in the world and can weigh more than 400 lbs. however, it is significantly smaller than the largest tuna species, the Bluefin tuna of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
History
The Tokelau Yellowfin Tuna 1 oz Silver Coin is available to you from the New Zealand Mint as part of a broad series of Tokelau Aquatic silver coins. These 2014 Yellowfin Tuna Silver Coins marked the launch of the series, with subsequent designs including the 2015 Great White Shark, 2016 Sailfish, 2017 Barracuda, and the 2018 Leopard Shark.
