{{/presale}}The America the Beautiful Quarters series was inaugurated by the U.S. Mint in 2010: limited mintages of bullion quarters with the objective of commemorating iconic landmarks and sights throughout the nation. The second issue of 2014 was the 2014 ATB Shenandoah 5 oz Silver Coin, celebrating the rugged vistas of Shenandoah National Park in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s a much sought-after coin for collectors and investors alike.
Highlights:
This coin is available from Provident Metals in flawless condition and comes with a protective plastic slab. SP70 coins have full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind. First Strike coins are those received for grading within 30 days of initial release from the mint.
History
Legislation first established the Shenandoah National Park in 1925, and it was finally formally dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1936. This beautiful wilderness nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains has been a protected area ever since, drawing avid hikers, modern-day explorers, and casual vacationers looking for the perfect opportunity for a camping getaway or a simple picnic. Black bears and multiple species of songbird call it home, and its scenery made it an ideal candidate for the America the Beautiful series of commemorative quarters.
Reverse
The 2014 ATB Shenandoah Silver Coin’s reverse side features an image of a hiker reaching the summit of Stony Man Trail, created by award-winning medallic artist Phebe Hemphill. It carries the inscriptions “Shenandoah,” “Virginia,” “2014,” and “E Pluribus Unum.”
Obverse
In 1932, John Flanagan designed the profile portrait of George Washington on the coin’s obverse side: an image that has since become standard on the nation’s circulation quarter. The obverse also carries the inscriptions “United States of America,” “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “Quarter Dollar.”
