This unusual rectangular coin features a “poster” design in full color on the reverse. The 1950s-style poster shows a soft brown-colored kangaroo carrying a joey in her pouch. The red rocks of the surface stand in brilliant contrast to the blue-green sky.
The poster reads AUSTRALIA in stark stylized letters. The edge is inscribed with VINTAGE TRAVEL at the top and 1 oz 999 SILVER at the bottom, with a Perth Mint mark in the bottom-left.
The obverse features a portrait of the Queen in her crown. The top reads ELIZABETH II and AUSTRALIA, while the bottom is inscribed with 1 DOLLAR and 2014.

The series commemorates a tourism boom the island-continent experienced in the 1950s and ’60s — thanks in no small part to the era’s striking travel posters, which helped advance Australian tourism from the 1930s to the 1960s.
This particular coin commemorates the iconic “Australia” (Kangaroo) poster by Dame Eileen Mayo. Her lithographs were renowned for their detailed depictions of Australian animals.
