The reverse shows the Canadian Maple Leaf in gorgeous detail, every vein traced and standing out. The inscriptions include CANADA, FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR with 9999 on either side of the leaf.
The 2014 coin includes the micro-engraving innovation introduced with last years design, a small maple leaf the size of a privy mark that includes the number 14 laser-etched into the coin. This detail is only visible under magnification, and is a security measure to counteract fraud.
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf was the first bullion coin in the world to be minted in 24-karat gold to .9999 fineness.
