{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Proof American Gold Eagles have long been a part of the United States Mints precious metal offerings. Launched in 1986, the Gold Eagle Series originally featured four BU coins and a single proof coin. While all BU sizes were available right away, proof coins didnt appear in fractional weights until a few years later. Right now, Provident Metals has the 2013-W Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin available for purchase.
Highlights:
Each 2013-W Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin listed here comes in its original presentation packaging. This includes a protective capsule, a display box for easy storage or showcasing, and a Certificate of Authenticity. The coins frosted designs contrast with the reflective fields, offering the well-known appearance of a proof strike.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2013-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coin features the iconic Lady Liberty design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This design shows Liberty holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other as she strides forward. The background includes sun rays, a ring of stars, and the Capitol building on the horizon. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2013, and the W mint mark.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2013-W Proof Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin is a depiction of a bald eagle family. Designed by Miley Busiek, the scene shows a male eagle flying toward the nest while the female watches over the young. This reverse image was a mainstay of the Gold Eagle Series for decades. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUMM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1 OZ FINE GOLD, and 50 DOLLARS.
History
Although the Gold Eagle Series debuted in 1986, the proof version was only produced in the 1 oz size at first. Fractional-proof coins followed shortly after, with the 1/2 oz coin arriving in 1987 and the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins joining in 1988.
