{{/presale}}Similar to Bristlecone pine trees, the Great Basin National Park America the Beautiful (ATB) silver coin can live on for generations. Bristlecone pines have been known to survive for nearly 5,000 years and are among the oldest single living organisms. For collectors and investors turning to tangible assets, the beautiful Great Basin National Park 5 oz silver coin can be trusted to live forever in their portfolio.
With the third release in 2013 and 18th overall in the ATB silver coin series, The U.S. Mint pays homage to the Great Basin National Park and the bristlecone pines that live in the mountainous and rocky region. Each coin is comprised of 5 troy ounces of .999 fine silver.
The reverse of each brilliant uncirculated coin depicts a single bristlecone pine tree on a rocky terrain. Surrounding the design are the inscriptions of “GREAT BASIN,” “NEVADA,” E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “2013.”
Bristlecones can grow at higher elevations and earn their name from the prickles on the female pine cones. They are just one of three species of pine trees and are protected by the United States government in the Great Basin National Park region that restrict the cutting or gathering of its wood.
The Great Basin National Park houses clusters of bristlecones and is also home to various plant and animal species, geology and water systems. It is located in eastern Nevada near the Utah border and covers 77,180 acres with elevations reaching higher than 13,000 feet. The park was established as U.S. National Park in 1986.
George Washington’s restored image from a 1932 design by John Flanagan covers the obverse of all 56 coins in the ATB silver coin program. Washington’s portrait was initially designed for the Washington Quarter and renewed to display clearer details. The coin is also inscribed with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “QUARTER DOLLAR,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “LIBERTY,” along with the mint mark “P” to show the coins were struck at the U.S. Mint’s Philadelphia facility.
