Introducing the Canadian Orca, the 10th remarkable release in the Royal Canadian Mint’s O Canada Series. Provident Metals is excited to present these 2013 Orca $10 Canadian 1/2 oz Silver Coins, each expertly crafted from one-half troy ounce of fine silver. The freshly minted Orca coins are an ideal choice for collectors who have a deep appreciation for marine life or Canadian wildlife.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a Royal Canadian Mint clamshell!
  • Limited mintage of only 40,000 coins!
  • Contains 1/2 oz .9999 pure silver.
  • Thee face value of $10 CAD is backed by the Canadian government.
  • On the obverse is Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse depicts an orca cresting the surface of the water.

Orcas employ sophisticated hunting strategies depending on their prey. For example, they may use coordinated group tactics, like herding fish into tight balls or creating waves to wash seals off ice floes. Some populations have been observed intentionally stranding themselves temporarily to catch seals resting on the shore.

Obverse

For the obverse of the 2013 Orca 1/2 oz Silver Coin, the Royal Canadian Mint features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief and is not wearing a crown on her head. This design comes from Susanna Blunt and includes inscriptions of ELIZABETH II and D.G. REGINA.

Reverse

Designed by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc, the reverse of the 2013 Orca $10 Canadian Coin captures a powerful breaching orca in a dynamic side view. The massive creature emerges from the water, surrounded by the tall trees and rocky shoreline of the Northwest Pacific coast. Encircling this captivating image are the engraved words CANADA and the face value of 10 DOLLARS, complemented by the mint date and a stylized orca tail fin.

History

Orcas are divided into different populations or ecotypes, each with unique behaviors, diets, and vocalizations. Transient Orcas, for instance, primarily feed on marine mammals and travel in smaller groups, while Resident Orcas primarily consume fish and live in larger, more stable family groups called pods.

Ordering

These 2013 Orca $10 Canadian 1/2 oz Silver Coins will be delivered in their original maroon clamshell case, lined with flock and protected by a black beauty box from the RCM.
