{{/presale}}The silver coins of the Lunar Series II program at the Perth Mint are some of the most sought-after bullion coins in the world. Available in a variety of weights each year, one of the largest is the 10 oz silver coin. In fact, only the 10 kilo and 1 kilo coins are larger, but these are struck in much lower numbers. Today, you have the opportunity to get 2012 Australian Lunar Dragon 10 oz Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The Lunar Series II program from the Perth Mint debuted in 2008. The collection offered a continuation of the lunar-themed designs presented in the Lunar Series I program, as well as an expansion of the series with more silver and gold weights for investors to purchase. The Lunar Series II program started out with 10 Kilo, 1 Kilo, 1/2 Kilo, 10 oz, 5 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz, and 1/2 oz silver in 2008. Only one of those weights is no longer available: 1/2 Kilo.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2012 Australian Lunar Dragon 10 oz Silver Coin is a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in a design that is considered the fourth-generation effigy on British coins and the fifth-generation effigy on Australian coins. In this design, the Queen is shown wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Inscriptions surrounding her effigy include Elizabeth II, Australia, 10 Dollars, 10 oz 999 Silver, and 2012.
Reverse
The reverse field of 2012 Australian Lunar Dragon Silver Coins comes with a depiction of a fearsome Chinese dragon. This design depicts a traditional Chinese dragon, one with no wings and four legs. The dragon is shown pursuing a flaming pearl around the design element with one of its forepaws coming close to grasping the item. The inscriptions on this side are limited to the Chinese symbol for a dragon, the phrase Year of the Dragon, and the Perth Mints P mint mark.
History
The fifth release of the series, the Year of the Dragon is situated as such in the Zodiac because of the dragons arrival to a meeting with the Jade Emperor. The fifth of 12 animals to arrive, the dragon thus became representative of the fifth year in the cycle.
