For the reverse face of the 2012 Lunar Dragon 1 oz Gold Coin, Perth Mint showcases a Chinese Dragon in pursuit of a flaming pearl. The pearl is symbolic of wisdom and is often used alongside the Chinese Dragon in artwork. Inscriptions on this side include the Chinese symbol for a dragon, the P mint mark of Perth Mint, and YEAR OF THE DRAGON.
History
The 2012 Australian Dragon release was the fifth of the Lunar Series II program. This particular iteration of Perth Mints ongoing lunar collections ran from 2008 to 2019, with the dragon aligned with its appearance that year on the Chinese Lunar Calendar.
