{{/presale}}The Lunar Series II collection from the Perth Mint really put lunar-themed coins on the map globally. The mint in Western Australian debuted lunar-themed designs in 1996 with its Lunar Series I collection, but the wider array of weights and finishes in the Lunar Series II collection really provided something for every type of silver and gold buyer. Provident Metals currently has the 2012 Australian Lunar Dragon 1 Kilo Silver Coin available to you for online purchasing.
Highlights:
When you purchase the 2012 Australian Lunar Dragon 1 Kilo Silver Coin, you will receive your item packaged individually inside of a protective acrylic capsule. The coins in this listing are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The Year of the Dragon features fifth in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, also known as the Zodiac.
Obverse
On the obverse face of 2012 Australian Lunar Dragon 1 Kilo Silver Coins is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This particular portrait of the Queen was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint of England and used on Australian coins as the fifth-generation effigy from 1999 to 2018. It depicts the Queen in right-profile relief with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head.
Reverse
For the reverse face, the 2012 Australian Lunar Dragon 1 Kilo Silver Coin depicts the Chinese dragon. The beast slithers around the entire design field as it pursues a flaming pearl and reaches out with one of its clawed hands in an attempt to capture it. Inscriptions include only the Chinese symbol for the dragon and the phrase Year of the Dragon.
History
The Lunar Series II collection at the Perth Mint significantly expanded the availability of lunar-themed designs. Fractional-ounce silver coins were introduced along with various weights above 1 oz in both silver and gold to attract a broader range of investors. Most coins, including these 2012 Australian Lunar Dragon 1 Kilo Silver coins, had an unlimited mintage. This meant only that the mint would strike the coins to meet demand through the end of the calendar year noted in the date mark on the coin.
