Prized by both collectors and investors, the 2012 ATB Hawaii Volcanoes 5 oz Silver Coin is the 14th entry in the popular, limited-mintage America the Beautiful Quarters series. Begun in 2010 by the U.S. Mint to showcase some of the most beautiful and striking landscapes and historic sites in America, this series is a popular favorite, and this quarter’s superb artwork and design is an example of why.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective NGC plastic slab!
  • The 14th America the Beautiful Quarter issued by the U.S. Mint!
  • Limited number of certified near-perfect silver coin!
  • Contains 5 Troy oz of .999 fine silver.
  • Bears a face value of a quarter-dollar (USD) backed by the American government.
  • Issued a Grade of Mint State 69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Proof-like visuals.
  • Artwork of Kilauea Volcano on the reverse.
  • Profile portrait of George Washington on the reverse.

Your purchase of the 2012 ATB Hawaii Volcanoes Silver Coin provides a coin in near-perfect condition. It features a mirrored, proof-like finish and sharply-rendered inscriptions, and comes with an individual protective NGC plastic slab. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster and no more than two minor flaws. Examples of these flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines located outside the primary focal points.

History:

Every year since 2010, the U.S. Mint has issued several commemorative coins in the America the Beautiful series. Each of them showcases a different iconic American site, like the fourth issue of 2012, which features the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. First established as a national site in 1916, the park exists to protect a unique wild landscape that’s the result of tens of millions of years of vulcanism on one of the globe’s most remote archipelagos. Its representatives worked actively with the Mint to create the 2012 ATB Hawaii Volcanoes 5 oz Coin’s design.

Obverse:

The obverse side of this coin carries the classic 1932 portrait of George Washington that has since been featured on America’s circulation quarter, a design by John Flanagan that celebrated the first President’s two hundredth birthday and had its source in a firsthand 18th-century sculpture. It also carries the inscriptions “United States of America,” “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “Quarter Dollar.”

Reverse:

The quarter’s reverse side shows an illustration of the Kilauea Volcano — one of Hawaii’s last active volcanoes — in eruption. It also features the inscriptions “Hawai’i Volcanoes,” “Hawaii,” “2012” and “E Pluribus Unum.”
