Obverse

Right from the inception of the American Gold Eagle series, the obverse has always featured the gorgeous Lady Liberty which was designed by the intellectual and artful thinker, Augustus Saint Gaudens, who is said to have flawlessly embodied the American Renaissance in his art. This can be found in his depiction of Liberty striding towards you in a flowing, lush gown, holding a sweltering torch in one hand and a beautiful olive branch in the other. She walks away from a background field while gleaming under a heavenly array of sunbeams.

Reverse

For the Reverse, we are gifted by the glorious design of Miley Busiek who remains one of the nations most accomplished and respected sculptors for generations to come. This design, which features a magnificent family of bald eagles, was made just for this coin specifically. It depicts a regal male bald eagle flying high over a nest of hatchlings looking strong and powerful like the average American. Its female counterpart looks on in awe and wonder, while guarding her young ones.
