{{/presale}}Vicksburg National Military Park was established as a federal landmark in February 1899 to protect and preserve the historic site of the Union-Confederate clash along the Mississippi River near Vicksburg, Mississippi. The site was chosen to represent the state of Mississippi in the America the Beautiful Series in its 2011 release. Provident Metals currently offers the 2011-P Burnished ATB Vicksburg 5 oz Silver Coin to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase a 2011-P Burnished ATB Vicksburg 5 oz Silver Coin, you receive a US Mint presentation box for the coin and a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint. The Burnished ATB Coins, unlike the bullion counterpart, comes with a P mint mark from the Philadelphia Mint that is struck on the obverse of the coin behind President George Washingtons head.
Obverse
The obverse side of 2011-P Burnished ATB Vicksburg 5 oz Silver Coins includes an iconic portrait of President George Washington. The bust of Washington was developed originally in 1932 by John Flanagan for use on the US Quarter and has continued in use on that coin through the 21st century. The design was modernized for use on these large 5 oz silver blanks in the ATB Silver Series.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2011-P Burnished ATB Vicksburg 5 oz Silver Coins, you will find a depiction of the USS Cairo on the Yazoo River. The USS Cairo was among the first ironclad ships built by the Union during the US Civil War. It was actually operated by the US Army and built in Mound City, Illinois, for use on the Mississippi River during the campaign the Union launched to split the Confederacy.
History
Vicksburg National Military Park preserves the location of the Battle of Vicksburg. Part of the larger Vicksburg Campaign, the battle itself was a 47-day siege that lasted from March 29 to July 4, 1863. The Union emerged victorious in the campaign and was able to split the Confederacy by isolating Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Texas in the west from the states of the Old South and the capital of the Confederacy.
