Glacier National Park is one of the most beautiful sites in the United States of America. The lands that make up the park were ceded to the federal government in 1895 by the Blackfeet tribe, and a federally protected site by 1897. Glacier National Park was an obvious choice as the representative site for Montana in the America the Beautiful Series. Provident Metals currently has the 2011-P Burnished ATB Glacier 5 oz Silver Coin available to purchase online.

Obverse

President George Washington is featured on the obverse of all 2011-P Burnished ATB Glacier 5 oz Silver Coins. This left-profile portrait comes from the circulation quarter and was modified slightly for the larger 5 oz silver blanks used in the America the Beautiful quarter series. John Flanagan created this bust of Washington in 1932 for use on the quarter and used as his inspiration a sculpture of Washington carved in 1786.

Reverse

A mountain goat climbs the tricky terrain of the Rocky Mountains in the reverse design of the 2011-P Burnished ATB Glacier 5 oz Silver Coin. Reynolds Mountain is featured in the background design on this face of the coin. The peak at Reynolds Mountain reaches 9,125 feet in height and is situated on the North American Continental Divide. The mountain is actually named for Charles E. Reynolds, a writer with Forest and Stream magazine who described and named many of the features in Glacier National Park.

History

Glacier National Park protects over 1 million acres of land in the Rocky Mountains of Montana. The park includes portions of two different mountain ranges and more than 130 named lakes among its protected natural wonders.
