{{/presale}}Launched in 1979, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin is among the earliest gold bullion coins still on the market. The series began with a 1 oz gold coin of .999 purity. In 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint expanded the lineup to include fractional-ounce coins and enhanced the gold purity to .9999. Provident Metals now offers the 2010 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/2 oz Gold Coins.
Highlights:
Each 2010 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/2 oz Gold Coin from Provident Metals is packaged in a protective plastic flip. This 1/2 oz coin is the largest of the fractional-ounce offerings in the series. The series began with 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins in 1982, with the 1/2 oz version introduced in 1986. Subsequent additions included 1/20 oz (1993) and 1 Gram (2014) coins.
Obverse
The obverse showcases Queen Elizabeth IIs final portrait on these 2010 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins, designed by Susanna Blunt. This right-profile relief shows the Queen without a crown, marking the conclusion of her depictions on Canadian coins. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 20 DOLLARS, and 2010.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2010 Maple Leaf 1/2 oz Gold Coin features the iconic sugar maple leaf, designed by Walter Ott in 1979. This emblematic design is also used on all silver, platinum, and palladium variants of the Maple Leaf coins, representing Canadas national symbol. Inscriptions read CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1/2 OZ OR PUR.
History
Queen Elizabeth II was the only monarch depicted on Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins from 1979 until 2023. During this time, her portrait was updated three times, with the last portrait created by Susanna Blunt in 2003, showing her at age 79.
