One of the most prized gold investment coins in the world, the Vienna Philharmonic has represented a stable and secure source of gold bullion for well over thirty years. The only gold bullion coin to carry a face value in Euro, and Europe’s best-selling investment coin, it has been a steady best-seller in the collectors’ marketplace thanks to its exquisite design and the attention to detail that the Austrian Mint brings to every stage of its production process. A characteristic example is the 2010 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin, now available from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a plastic flip!
  • Issued in 2010, struck by the Austrian Mint!
  • Final mintage of 501,951!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Face value of 100 Euro is backed by the Oesterreichische Nationalbank.
  • Obverse side features the famous pipe organ from the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna.
  • Reverse side features eight iconic orchestral instruments.

The 2010 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin ships in a plastic flip, with each shipment, fully insured and tracked by the team at Provident Metals. The coin’s face value is backed by the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, of which the Austrian Mint is a division, and is certified by the LBMA and the OECD.

Obverse

The famous pipe organ resident in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna is featured on the coin’s obverse side, accompanied by the inscriptions “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH,” “1 UNZE GOLD 999.9,” “2010” and “100 EURO.”

Reverse

Eight iconic instruments from the orchestra appear on the coin’s reverse: four violins are arrayed on either side of a cello in the foreground while a Viennese horn, a bassoon, and a harp appear behind them. They are accompanied by the inscription “WEINER PHILHARMONIKER.”

History

First struck in 1989, the Vienna Philharmonic was conceived as a stable gold investment coin that would represent Austria’s national identity and celebrate its cultural legacy. Many themes were considered, but music won out thanks to the enduring global fame of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in whose honor the coin would be both named and designed. It went on to become a runaway success, identified by the World Gold Council as the single best-selling gold coin in the world in four separate years from 1992 to the turn of the 21st century. Today, if every Vienna Philharmonic gold coin ever sold was stacked each on top of the other, they would reach a total height of 15 kilometers, nearly double the height of Mount Everest.
