Each 2008-W Proof American Buffalo 1/10 oz Gold Coin offered here holds a PR70/PF70 grade, reflecting its flawless condition and original mint luster. Some pieces may also come with special grading labels such as First Strike or Early Releases, indicating an early certification date after release from the Mint.
Your coin will be selected at random once payment is processed. Although we cannot guarantee the grading service (PCGS or NGC), each coin has received a perfect PR70/PF70 proof grade. Certification labels may vary, and if you order multiple coins, they may or may not have matching labels.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2008-W Proof American Buffalo Gold Coin features a portrait of a Native American shown in profile. This design, created by James Earle Fraser, was based on the likenesses of three real-life tribal leaders: Big Tree, Iron Tail, and Two Moons. The inscriptions read LIBERTY, 2008, Fraser’s F initial, and the W mint mark.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2008-W Proof Buffalo 1/10 oz Gold Coin, youll see the image of an American bison. The design was inspired by Black Diamond, a bison that once lived at New York Citys Central Park Zoo and was known for his impressive stature. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, $5, 1/10 OZ., and .9999 FINE GOLD.
History
These visuals are taken from the Buffalo Nickel, a coin issued between 1913 and 1938 and well-known for its bold and realistic imagery. The Buffalo Nickel was eventually replaced by the Jefferson Nickel. In 2008, the U.S. Mint issued fractional-ounce Gold Buffalos for the first and only time, available in Proof and Burnished finishes in 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz sizes.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. Most Provident orders are shipped within one (1) business day of your payment clearing. Payments made via PayPal clear instantly. Bitcoin payments clear instantly once the transaction is confirmed. Credit Card and bank wire payments process within 1 business day. ACH and paper check payments take 3-5 business days. Once payments are processed, products are released to fulfillment for packaging and shipping.
All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
