Obverse

The obverse of these 2006 American Eagle Silver Coins showcases Adolph A. Weinmans classic Walking Liberty artwork. This design first appeared on the U.S. half dollar in 1916 and was in use until 1947. It remains one of the most well-known and admired coin designs in American numismatic history. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2006.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2006 Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins features John Mercantis rendition of the Heraldic Eagle, a long-standing American symbol dating back to early U.S. coinage. This specific design was the face of the Silver Eagle reverse from its inception through 2021. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and 1 OZ FINE SILVER.

History

The 2006 release was a commemorative set for the 20th anniversary of the series. Included in the 3-coin set are the standard Proof Silver Eagle struck at the West Point Mint, a one-time Reverse Proof coin from the Philadelphia Mint, and the debut Burnished Silver Eagle. The reverse proof has a unique appearance that reverses the normal proof finishits fields are frosted while the design elements are polished. The burnished coin, on the other hand, offers a soft, satin-like texture produced through a special minting process that enhances quality and presentation.
