{{/presale}}The Proof American Eagle Gold Coins debuted in 1986 alongside the BU versions in the series. However, the first year included only a 1 oz gold coin, followed by a 1 oz and 1/2 oz issue in 1987. By 1988, the Proof American Eagle Gold Series was complete with the addition of the 1/4 and 1/10 oz coins, with the 1/10 oz coin immediately becoming the annual best-seller of the group. Provident Metals currently has certified-perfect 2006-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase a 2006-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin in this Provident Metals listing, the coin you receive comes with a plastic slab and a grade of PR70. Considered a perfect specimen, each coin showcases full, original mint luster and comes with no detractions of any kind present. DCAM coins are deep-cameo proofs with strong, frosted designs overlaying deeply-mirrored, clear fields.
Obverse
The obverse of 2006-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coins features Lady Liberty in front-facing relief. This full-length effigy of Liberty was designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and showcases her figure walking toward you with a torch held up in her right hand and an olive branch clutched in her left hand. The field includes sun rays behind Liberty and a ring of 50 stars around the element. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2006, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2006-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin is a depiction of a family of bald eagles. Designed exclusively for this coin series in 1986 by Miley Busiek, this image shows a male eagle flying back to the nest as a female eagle extends its wing to shelter hatchlings. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD 5 DOLLARS.
History
From 1988 when it was first issued to 2007, the Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin outsold each of the other three weights in the proof range on an annual basis. The last time this would happen was 2007, with the 1 oz gold coin rising to the top in 2008 and staying there for several years.
