{{/presale}}In 2006, demand for Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins remained steady and consistent with the previous five years. After a slow start to the new century, and the first decade thereof, the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins gained some modest momentum before taking off later in the decade as the Great Recession set in. Right now, you can buy 2006 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the 2006 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coin online at Provident Metals, you will receive a 24-karat gold coin housed in a protective plastic flip. The mintage in 2006 for this series was 209,937 coins. This was in line with the running average between 2003 and 2007, with the peak in this period coming in 2005 with 281,000 coins, while the 2003 and 2007 coins had mintages around 190,000.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse of the 2006 Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coin. This design was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt and depicts the Queen without a crown, a first on Canadian coins during her reign. On this side of the coin, you will also find inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, 50 DOLLARS, and 2006.
Reverse
A sugar maple leaf is depicted in the reverse design of 2006 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins. Walter Ott created this front-facing look at the sugar maple leaf in 1979 when the gold coins debuted in this series. It has since been used on all additional weights of the gold coin, as well as the silver, platinum, and palladium coins. Inscriptions on this side include CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1 OZ OR PUR.
History
The mintage of Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins in 2006 was down significantly from the previous year, but was higher than the 2007 release to come. In 2008, the impact of the Great Recession was felt by the latter half of the year and demand for Maple Leafs skyrocketed to 710,718 coins, the highest mintage since 1990.
