The 2006 20th Anniversary American Eagle Gold 3-Coin Set from the United States Mint features three distinctive coins in the American Eagle Gold release. The W-Proof coin is the traditional collectible release available since 1986 and comes with frosted design elements set against mirrored background fields. The W-Burnished coin is a new annual coin as of 2006 that has matte visuals on both faces of the coin. The W-Reverse Proof is a one-time issue in this set with mirrored design elements and frosted background fields.
Obverse
On the obverse face of the 2006 20th Anniversary American Eagle Gold 3-Coin Set specimens is an image of Lady Liberty. Created initially in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this vision of Liberty depicts her figure in front-facing relief with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. A ring of 50 stars encircles the design element with rays of sunshine emerging from behind the figure of Liberty. Inscriptions include Liberty, 2006, and a W mint mark from the West Point Mint on each version of the coin.
Reverse
The reverse field of 2006 20th Anniversary American Eagle Gold specimens boasts a family of American bald eagles. This design comes from Miley Busiek and is exclusive to the American Eagle Gold Series at the US Mint. It depicts a male eagle flying over the nest with an olive branch in its talons as a female eagle shelters a young hatchling in the nest. Inscriptions feature United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and 1 oz Fine Gold 50 Dollars.
History
American Eagle Gold Eagles debuted in 1986 with four weights in the Brilliant Uncirculated range and one in the Proof range. Three more proof coins were introduced in 1987 and 1988, with the Burnished coin introduced in 2006.

Your 2006 20th Anniversary American Eagle Gold 3-Coin Set includes individual capsules for each coin and a black, velvet-lined three-coin display box from the United States Mint. A Certificate of Authenticity is available from the United States Mint as well.
