One of the most popular ongoing coin collections in the world is Australias Lunar Series program. Introduced by Perth Mint in 1996, these bullion coins are now in a third generation of release as of the 2020 debut of the Lunar Series III program. Today, you have the opportunity to get 2005 Australian Lunar Rooster 1 oz Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a protective plastic capsule!
  • 10th date in the Australian Lunar Series I collection!
  • Final mintage of 92,691 silver coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • The face value of $1 (AUD) is backed by the Commonwealth of Australia.
  • Obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Reverse features a rooster.

The Lunar Series I collection debuted in 1996 and was much simpler, at first, than the series is today. Gold bullion coins were the only options available from 1996 to 1998. Even the introduction of silver bullion coins in 1999 didnt immediately bring about the rapid expansion of the series.

Obverse

In the obverse design of the 2005 Lunar Rooster 1 oz Silver Coin, you will find the iconic image of Queen Elizabeth II from Ian Rank-Broadley. Designed in 1998, this effigy shows the Queen in right-profile relief with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Inscriptions on this side include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 1 DOLLAR.

Reverse

For the reverse face of 2005 Australian Lunar Rooster Silver Coins, you will find a depiction of a rooster. This confident pose sees the rooster displaying its tail feathers as it looks back behind its figure. Flowers are in the foreground, with stylized clouds and the sun in the background. Inscriptions include 2005, 1 OZ 999 SILVER, and the Chinese symbol for a rooster.

History

The 2005 Year of the Rooster issue in 1 oz silver had the same mintage cap as previous issues in the series, with just 300,000 coins allowable for the year. However, like most of the previous years, the 2005 Lunar Rooster did not approach that cap. In fact, demand was down by roughly 10,000 coins compared to each of the previous two releases.
