Obverse
The obverse field of the 2002-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin has a depiction of Walking Liberty. First created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this design was created to symbolize the nations hope for a peaceful future as World War I raged in Europe. In this image, Liberty walks toward the sun on the horizon with a hand reaching for the sun of a bright, new day.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2002 Proof American Eagle Silver Coins, you will find the heraldic eagle of the United States. The heraldic eagle of the United States of America is one of the oldest designs in the nations history and first featured on American denominations in 1792. This design was modernized in 1986 by John Mercanti for this series.
History
2002 Proof American Eagle Silver Coins arrived in an interval between the switch to the West Point Mint as the mint of origin and the 20th anniversary of the coins in 2006. The 2001 coin enjoyed a boost in demand for the fact that its date mark and new mint mark resulted from the switch to the West Point Mint from the Philadelphia Mint. The coins from 2003 onward would enjoy increasing demand each year as interest in silver grew through the 2010s.
