{{/presale}}At the dawn of the 21st century, demand for Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins was the lowest the program has seen in its history to date. The 2000 release of Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins set an all-time low following the intense demand the program experienced during the Y2K crisis. Today, you have the opportunity to get 2001 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Introduced in 1979, Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins consisted of a 1 oz gold coin from 1979 to November 1982. At that point, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins were introduced into the series. Over the next three decades, 1/2 oz, 1/20 oz, and 1 Gram gold coins were added to the series. Notably, the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin was the first to use 24-karat gold.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2001 Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins, you will find the image of Queen Elizabeth II. This date mark features the 1990 design of Her Majesty from Dora de Pedery-Hunt. This image was created as the third-generation effigy of the Queen and shows the monarch wearing the George IV State Diadem. It is the first portrait of a British monarch on Canadian coins that was created by a Canadian artist. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include ELIZABETH II, 50 DOLLARS, and 2001.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2001 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin comes with a depiction of the sugar maple leaf. This design was created in 1979 by Walter Ott for the debut of this series. It features the sugar maple leaf in front-facing relief. Inscriptions on this field of the coin read CANADA, 9999, 1 OZ. FINE GOLD and OR PUR.
History
The 2001 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin has the second-lowest mintage in the programs history, to date. The 2000 release was the lowest, and even though the 2001 mintage was nearly double that of the previous year, demand for gold was extremely low in the early 2000s.
