The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Series was first introduced in 1979 by the Royal Canadian Mint. It started with a single gold coin and has grown to include silver, platinum, and palladium coins over time. Known for its high purity, the Gold Maple Leaf remains one of the most recognizable gold bullion options. Today, you can purchase the 2001 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coin from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Comes with a protective plastic flip!
  • 20th issue of 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leafs!
  • Declared mintage of only 63,470 coins!
  • Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • The face value of $5 (CAD) is fully backed by the Canadian government.

Each 2001 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coin comes in a protective plastic flip. The 1/10 oz coin was introduced in 1982 alongside the 1/4 oz version. Together with the original 1 oz coin, they were the first in the Maple Leaf lineup to feature .9999 fine gold, offering buyers more flexibility in size.

Obverse

The obverse side of the 2001 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin shows Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile. This image was designed by Canadian artist Dora de Pedery-Hunt in 1990. The Queen is shown wearing the George IV State Diadem. This was the first portrait of Her Majesty for Canadian coinage created by a Canadian artist. The inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 5 DOLLARS, and 2001.

Reverse

On the reverse of 2001 Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coins, youll see a design of the sugar maple leaf. This image was created by Walter Ott in 1979. It has been used across all versions of the Maple Leaf Series in gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. The inscriptions read CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1/10 OZ OR PUR.

History

When the Gold Maple Leaf debuted in 1979, it was available only as a 1 oz gold coin made of .999 pure gold. In 1982, the series expanded to include the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins. Additional sizes were added in later years, including the 1/2 oz coin in 1986 and the 1/20 oz coin in 1993. The smallest option, the 1 Gram coin, was introduced in 2014.
