{{/presale}}Nowadays, the Lunar Series collection of bullion coins from the Perth Mint is a well-established feature in the investment and numismatic sectors. However, back in 2001, the program was still in its nascent stages. It was during this year that the Lunar Series I program reached its midpoint and lasted until 2007. Today, you have the opportunity to get 2001 Australian Lunar Snake 10 oz gold Coins online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The Year of the Snake is also associated with the Chinese Five Elements theory, which holds that everything in the universe is made up of a combination of five fundamental elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. In Chinese astrology, each element is associated with different personality traits, and the element of the Year of the Snake can have an impact on the characteristics of people born in that year.
Obverse
The obverse of 2001 10 oz Gold Lunar Snake Coins features a right-profile relief of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. The Queen is depicted wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara in this portrait. Inscriptions on this side include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 1000 DOLLARS.
Reverse
Only the gold bullion coins in the Lunar Series I program feature a design on their reverse side that shows a snake coiled on a thin tree branch. The silver coin in the series had its own design, while subsequent Lunar Series collections featured different snake designs for the Year of the Snake. The inscriptions read 2001, 10 OZ 9999 GOLD, and the Chinese symbol for a snake.
History
The Lunar Series I program started in 1996 at Perth Mint with only gold bullion coins available. In 1999, the mint introduced silver bullion versions of the coins as well. The Lunar Series I program ran from 1996 to 2007.
