Highlights:
A struggling American economy kept demand for the American Eagle Silver Coins high in the early 2000s, even after the fears over Y2K subsided. The demand in 2001 was down slightly from 9.2 million coins sold in 2000 to a total of 9.001 million, but the 2000s would eventually go down as a decade of much higher demand compared to the 1990s that preceded.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2001 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins is a depiction of Walking Liberty. This vision of Liberty was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman for the US half dollar. The Walking Liberty design was on the obverse of the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947. This modern design includes inscriptions of Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2001.
Reverse
The reverse face of the 2001 American Eagle Silver Coins includes the heraldic eagle of the United States of America. The national emblem depicts a front-facing eagle with the US national shield on its chest, the arrows of war in one talon, and the olive branch of peace in the other talon. There is a triangular cluster of 13 stars overhead of the eagle in this design. Inscriptions include United States of America, 1 oz. Fine Silver One Dollar, and E Pluribus Unum.
History
American Eagle Silver Coins would go on to climb in 2002 to 10.539 million coins, before hitting a major surge period from 2008 to 2015 in which mintages were over 20 million coins annually, eventually peaking at 47 million coins in 2015.
