{{/presale}}Based on the 20 Francs gold denomination and used widely throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the 20 Corona Austrian Gold Coin was a popular denomination in everyday use across Europe for decades. Today, you can buy 20 Corona Austrian Gold Coins online at Provident Metals from random years.
Highlights:
The Austro-Hungarian Empire was the third-largest empire in Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries in terms of size, behind only the British Empire and the Russian Empire. It was one of the most powerful industrial empires on the continent and was ruled throughout the entirety of its existence by Franz Joseph I, the reigning Emperor of Austria who became King of Hungary as well when the kingdoms merged to form the joint empire.
Obverse
For the obverse design element, the 20 Corona Austrian Gold Coin features a bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I. As these coins were issued for just 24 years during the late reign of Franz Joseph I, the same bust of the Emperor is featured on all coins. His right-profile bust depicts the Emperor wearing a crown wreath. Inscriptions around the design element are in Latin.
Reverse
In the reverse design field, you will find the coat of arms for Austria on the 20 Corona Austrian Gold Coins. The Austrian coat of arms is based on that of the Hapsburg Dynasty and includes a double-headed eagle with a crown on its head and a shield on its chest. The eagle clutches a sword in one talon and a globe scepter in the other. The inscriptions on this face are in Latin as well with the face value in Roman numerals XX and the date mark in both Roman numerals and Arabic numerals.
History
The Austro-Hungarian Empire adopted the gold standard in 1892 and began to issue the 20 Corona Austrian Gold Coin at that time. The coins were issued for circulation through 1916 when World War I made it impossible to continue coining gold coins. Please note that restrikes of this popular design and denomination were produced by the Austrian Mint, but none of the coins available in this listing come from the restrike period. These coins are all date marked between 1892 and 1916.
Ordering
These 20 Corona Austrian Gold Coins are available in protective flips and come in About Uncirculated-plus condition. The coins show only the slightest evidence of wear on the highest points of the design elements. The inclusion of plus in the grade indicates the coins are among the best AU specimens. Please note you could receive matching date marks if you buy more than one.
