{{/presale}}The Panama-Pacific International Exposition celebrated the construction of the Panama Canal and took place over from February 20 to December 4, 1915. Five coins were released to commemorate the event, which features the design found on the PanPac round. Today, you can purchase the 2 oz Silver PanPac Round from Provident Metals in new condition.
Highlights
The 2 oz Silver PanPac Rounds features the original design that was featured on the $50 gold coins issued by the U.S. Mint in 1915. These coins were unique and the first gold coins in U.S. history to hold the value of $50. The San Francisco Mint was responsible for striking these coins.
The 2 oz Silver PanPac Rounds are available for purchase individually or in bulk orders of 10. Individual rounds are shipped within a protective packaging while 20 rounds come in tubes.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2 oz Silver PanPac Rounds is a design of the Roman goddess Minerva, believed to be the goddess of wisdom and warfare. The depiction of the goddess is a left profile bust wearing a battle helmet with a shield on her side. Engravings include United States of America and 1915 in Roman Numerals on the shield. Also, engraved on the obverse is the phrase In God We Trust, which was the first time the nations motto was featured on coins.
Reverse
The reverse of these rounds features an owl perched on a Ponderosa Pine branch with cones. Panama-Pacific Exposition and San Francisco are inscribed on the reverse, dedicated to the exposition that was held for 10 months.
History
The Panama-Pacific International Exposition was a worlds fair held to celebrate the Panama Canal, which connects the Pacific and Atlantic oceans through a small channel between North and South America. The U.S. Mint was authorized to produce five coins to honor the event. These included a silver half dollar, four gold coins of $1, $2.50, and $50 (2). The expo also acted as a way to share how San Francisco was rebuilding its infrastructure after an earthquake in 1906.
