{{/presale}}Throughout the course of World War II, it was up to the Office of War Information to help disseminate information about the war effort and control propaganda in the United States. The federal government received the help of countless artists in creating more than 200,000 different propaganda poster designs to encourage support of the war effort. The Fight For Freedoms Sake Series catalogs four memorable posters from this era on 2 oz silver bars. Right now, you can buy 2 oz Silver Im Counting on You Bars online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
When you purchase the 2 oz Silver Im Counting on You Bar in the Fight For Freedoms Sake Series, each item is available to ship with an individual protective acrylic capsule. The bars have a combination of colorized design elements and pure silver finishes on the obverse with a shared common reverse. All bars feature a numbered Certificate of Authenticity that matches the individual serial number on the obverse of the bars.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2 oz Silver Im Counting on You Bars, you will find Uncle Same. A national personification of the federal government, Uncle Sam, or US, has been used as a propaganda figure since the War of 1812 when his likeness was believed to have been inspired by Samuel Wilson. Mr. Wilson served in the Continental Army in 1781 when he was just 14 and his meat-packing business supplied United States Army soldiers in New York during the War of 1812. In this design, Uncle Sams finger covers his mouth suggesting Americans help keep word of mouth down about American troop movements, ship sailings, and war equipment.
Reverse
The reverse of all bars in the 2 oz Silver Fight For Freedoms Sake Series includes a common design. In this design element, American soldiers advance on an enemy position under covering fire from a fellow soldier.
History
Samuel Wilsons connection to Uncle Sam comes from his reputation in New York during the War of 1812 and his position as meat inspector for the Union Army. His business supplied pork and beef to American soldiers for one year and he would stamp barrels of meat E.A.-U.S. Troops who benefited from this food knew of Wilsons meat-packing business and, already referring to him as Uncle Sam, associated the US stamp on the barrels with Uncle Sam.
