The design of the skull and its name come from different eras. The first reported use of a similar skull was on regimental badges and insignia for militia and Continental Army units during the American Revolution. Modern comic-book fans no doubt recognize the Deuce Four Skull as the symbol for The Punisher. Military veterans and enthusiasts alike will recognize the skull as the popular symbol of the 24^th Regiment of the United States Army, hence the term Deuce Four being associated with the skull.

Obverse

For the obverse element of the 2 oz Silver Deuce Four Skull Round Type IIs, you will find the skull in the center with a Roman numeral III denoting the belief that only 3% of the colonial population took up arms to defeat Great Britain in the Revolutionary War. There are two rings of 13 stars around the design element, with a tight circle of 13 stars on the skull and a wider ring around the design element.

Reverse

In the reverse design field, you will find the Intaglio Mint symbol in the center. The Intaglio Mint uses a Roman column-styled I for the logo and a global map in the background, with the mint name and establishment date. The twisted radial lines are new to the background field. The 24^th Regiment of the United States Army uses the Deuce Four Skull as a symbol of its success on the battlefield. While deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, the 24^th would spray paint the Deuce Four Skull on buildings its forces had found and defeated enemy combatants in.
