{{/presale}}The latest release in the Shield Stacker Series features a trellised targe from the medieval era! The word targe is of Old English and is simply another word for shield. These pieces are perfectly stackable and consist of pure silver augmented with an antique polish. If youre a fan of the Middle Ages, these stackers could be a great addition to your collection! Right now, you can buy 2 oz Shield Trellised Targe Silver Stackers online from Provident Metals.
Stacker Highlights:
When you purchase 2 oz Shield Trellised Targe Stackers in this Provident Metals listing online, they will arrive to you in brand-new condition. Each piece has been fashioned in .999 pure silver with a stunning antique finish. In addition to giving the shields a vintage aesthetic, the polish also helps to prevent tarnishing when handling. Because of their domed shape, multiple shields will stack on top of each other, perfectly clicking into place. However, if you dont wish to stack them, each shield includes its own custom capsule for storage and display purposes.
Design
On the obverse and reverse of these 2 oz Trellised Targe Silver Stackers, you will find the same design. As stackable silver, the reverse merely consists of a concaved impression of the front design. The imagery on these stackers perfectly replicates the museum piece from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Cutting across in opposite directions are trellised bands, which form a diamond pattern over the surface. Within each diamond shape, there is a creature, either real or imaginary. These include a griffin, horse, two-headed eagle, and lion. If you look closely, you will also notice small dent marks from a jousting stick.
History
The original museum piece on which this stacker is based is named Trellised Targe for the Tilt. Though housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as part of the Arms and Armor Collection, it is currently not on display. The piece is from Augsburg, Germany, and is dated between 1550-60. This beautifully decorated shield would have been used in a jousting tournament, with the raised trellises specifically designed to catch and shatter the opponents lance.
