{{/presale}}Purchasing secondary market gold bars is a great way to invest in gold at an affordable price. Secondary market bars have been previously owned and held by other investors, but resold to authorized dealers and made available to purchase again. The condition of the bars can vary, but many secondary market bars have been handled safely and shipped securely at all times. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase 2 oz Gold Bars from Johnson & Matthey online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Johnson & Matthey was involved in the precious metals industry for nearly 200 years when it closed its doors in 2016. The company sold its North American operations, both refining and assaying, to another refining company and exited the precious metals industry. As a result of this move, you will no longer find newly-produced Johnson & Matthey products. Most remaining JM-brand products are secondary market pieces.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2 oz Gold Bars in this product listing is the image of the Johnson & Matthey logo. The logo is styled with a rectangle at the top of the bar with the initials JM on the left and the hammer-and-ax design on the right. Other inscriptions include the words Assayers Refiners, Fine Gold 9999, and 2 Ounces Troy. Some of these gold bars may have a serial number inscribed on this side of the bar.
Reverse
The reverse face of the 2 oz Gold Bars available here have the Johnson & Matthey logo across the surface. The design is set on a 45-degree angle and repeats across the entire design field of the bars reverse face.
History
Johnson & Matthey was formed in 1817 by Percival Norton Johnson as a gold assayers office in London. In 1851, George Matthey joined his company and the name was changed to Johnson & Matthey. The company became the official assayer of the Bank of England one year later. Throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Johnson & Matthey made a name for itself refining gold bars for private investors to purchase. Its final refining facilities included two modern refining plants and an assayers office, with all three located in North America.
